Our Laundry Room Makeover (5 DIY Ideas)

Our laundry room makeover is complete! (Well, for now.) Here are the 5 DIY’s projects we completed making our laundry space a little prettier and a lot more functional. Keep reading for more details about each project below.

1.Upper Cabinets/Shelf Combo

We started by buying two cabinets from Lowe’s. We painted them for a pop of color and installed them before we built in the washer/dryer machines. Once the cabinets were hung, we got to work on the shelf. We cut the shelf to fit from wall to wall and then custom made a rack to for hanging clothes.

2. Washer/Dryer Built-in/Folding Table

This was the biggest project to date, but it wasn’t as difficult as you would think. I posted a video with a few details to explain how we did it.

3. Backsplash

This was probably my least favorite project. It was nearly as fun as watching other people in videos made it seem, but that could be because I have shoulder problems. Anyway, I went with a classic, white subway tile. I didn’t want the tile to be super noticeable so I chose a white grout for a monochrome look.

4. Hidden Laundry Organizer

Long story short, we started out with a 3-bin laundry sorter and built a frame around it. Then we added boards around the outside to make it look like shiplap. Finally, we added a top and secured it with a hinge for ease of opening and closing.

5. Floating Shelf

We made this for two reasons: 1. to store hats/gloves/scarves above the shelf 2. to hang clothes to dry (we hadn’t built the other hanging rack yet at this point)

We have at least one more project in mind; making that utility sink a little more pretty. We would like to build that spot in as well and are going to raise the sink a little to help with bending over as much while rinsing things out.

Since laundry is kind of essential to our family unit, our top priority was getting this space more functional. The built-in washer & dryer/folding table is definitely my most favorite part. It makes doing consecutive loads of laundry a lot easier. (I usually do the bulk of laundry all in one day then do a load of towels as needed.) My second favorite feature is the hanging space between the upper cabinets. Even though it’s a tad higher than most racks, it’s still really handy to have right there as I get things out of the washer or dryer.
